While the winter chill can be felt on your skin, a cup of one of the popular mulled wines warms you from within – especially the one originating from the Christkindlmarkt on Marienplatz, one of the largest and most famous in the Bavarian capital. An indescribably festive atmosphere fills the air as twinkling lights and cheerful music transform the city into a true winter fairytale.

Christmas Markets Galore

There are more than 30 Christmas markets spread across the city, perfect for a leisurely stroll. You can find the most beautiful ones in Munich’s old town:

  • Munich Ice Magic at Karlsplatz-Stachus (November 21, 2025 – February 11, 2026): The world’s second-largest mobile ice rink, after the one at Rockefeller Center.
  • Christkindlmarkt at Marienplatz (November 24 – December 24, 2025): Munich’s oldest Christmas market since 1972, featuring the famous Christmas tree.
  • Christmas Village in the Kaiserhof of the Residenz (November 17 – December 22, 2025): A market with a fairytale forest in the Residenz courtyard.
  • Winter Magic at Viktualienmarkt (November 21, 2025 – January 5, 2026): Seasonal treats and a nativity scene set up in the usual beer garden.
  • Crib Market at Rindermarkt (November 24 – December 24, 2025): The largest selection of nativity accessories and a huge Christmas pyramid in the middle of the market.
  • Christkindlmarkt at Sendlinger Tor (November 24 – December 22, 2025): A small, charming, and very popular market among locals at a historic site.
  • Advent Spectacle & Medieval Christmas Market at Wittelsbacher Platz (November 24 – December 23, 2025): A market full of old traditions and authentic recreations of Munich’s medieval city culture.
  • Feuerzangenbowle behind the Schrannenhalle (new location; November 22, 2025 – January 6, 2026): A giant cauldron of Feuerzangenbowle and a truly unique atmosphere.
  • Tollwood Winter Festival at Theresienwiese (November 25 – December 23, 2025): Tollwood in winter: performances, live music, a Christmas market with arts & crafts, and organic gastronomy.
